When I moved to Florida in 1997, I began working with the Domestic Violence Unit within Court Administration as I studied and passed the Florida Bar exam.  I had the good fortune to begin working with the Office of the State Attorney, 20th Judicial Circuit in December of 1998.  During my tenure at the SAO I have tried well over 100 jury trials including several domestic violence murders, sexual batteries, child abuse and child homicides.   I am the Chief of the Special Victims Unit for the 20th Judicial Circuit.  This supervisory role keeps me involved in cases throughout the five counties as well as provides me with the space to educate and continue involvement in the community in which I serve.  This involvement includes participation on task forces and boards associated with the women’s shelter, child abduction, child death review and human trafficking.Becoming involved with the Human Trafficking Task Force as a co-chair has been a great privilege.   The task force is a multi-disciplinary effort to best meet the needs of the victims and the public subject to human trafficking trauma. This coupled with HT Counts, the SAO’s recent data project collecting human trafficking data from NGO’s and law enforcement agencies will greatly assist our community with allocating resources to human trafficking victims.
