History of ACT
ACT began offering shelter to victims in 1979 with a capacity of 15. Expansion at our Fort Myers shelter now permits a maximum of 35-beds and includes 2 additional buildings on the campus.
In order to meet the need in rural areas, a second shelter was opened in 1996 to serve residents of Glades and Hendry Counties. March of 1998 saw the addition of a third ACT shelter in the City of Cape Coral which has 22-beds.
This site is owned and maintained by Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc., a not-for-profit agency funded in part by United Way, City of Fort Myers, City of Cape Coral, Department of Children and Families, Office of the Attorney General and private donations from the community.
