Batterers’ Intervention Program

The Certified Batterers’ Intervention Program is a 26-week, on-going group to help participants learn alternatives to violence. It teaches such skills as “time out” and “positive self talk” to prevent out of control behavior. Batterers are taught to stop denying the existence of or minimizing the seriousness of the violence and its effects on the victim and the family. Batterers are also taught to take responsibility for their own behavior and stop blaming others for their anger or loss of control. They are taught what abuse is, so that they know what actions or behaviors are intimidating, isolating, violent, and threatening. They are also taught alternative nonviolent behaviors, emotions and attitudes.

This program is the only paying program of the agency. The Batterer’s Program participants pay on a sliding fee scale.
